i am originally from Joliet il and i remember seeing these
very
long &
very
loud coal trains coming up the grade at the south end of the yard. i think thats when i started to love trains i wonder if anyone could tell me when they diselized and if anyone has any pictures of EJ&E steam?

Can't tell you definitively but they had Baldwin sharks and center cabs so it was probably late 40's. The only thing I know about EJ&E steam is that there is one of the nicest 2-8-2's proportion wise sitting in a park at Broadway and US12 in downtown Gary Indiana. I have often wondered what it would take to make her run.
