David A. McKay, 1943-2004

  • Lifelong railfan, photographer, model railroad collector, and immediate past President of the Akron Railroad Club, Dave McKay of the Cleveland, Oh. area died this afternoon of heart failure after suffering a massive heart attack at home last Monday. One of the best railroad photographers in the Midwest, Dave has a book coming out next Spring on railroads in Northeastern Ohio by Morning Sun Books. The body will be cremated, look for a memorial service sometime in late January in the Cleveland area. Dave had no immediate family outside of the railfan community and we will be all the poorer for his loss.

  • A great loss to all of us. I'm very sorry to hear about this.

Being Crazy, keeps you from going "INSANE" !! "The light at the end of the tunnel, has been turned off due to budget cuts" NOT AFRAID A Vet., and PROUD OF IT!!

  • I've just learned of this sad news. Dave was one of the finest gentlemen I have ever known. His photography inspired me from my very young days as a railfan in the late 1960's. He was one of a small group of Cleveland area railfans who took me under wing as a teenager and taught me all about railfanning and photography. His kindness and warm smile will be missed.
