Panama Canal Railway

  • Hello! and Merry Christmas!

I am looking for more information on the Panama Canal Railway for modeling purposes. I've found a few websites with pictures of locomotives and passenger cars. I have not found anything like a map or pictures of the yards and port areas. If anyone knows a website or physical place to call and obtain this information, I would be grateful. Thanks, and please share all that you know!

  • Shane,

You might try the Kansas City Southern website, www.kcsi.com. Click on the Panama Canal RR logo for info and links that might be of help to you.

A book about the very early days of the railroad that might be helpful is:

PANAMA: A Personal Record of Fory-six Years Along the Panama Railroad Line
    by Tracy Robinson

    Also, check your library for:
Path Between The Seas : The Creation of the Panama Canal
by David McCullough. It's a pretty comprehensive book on the building of the canal but I don't recall how much railroad history was included.

Email me if you want links where to order a used copy of either. (I do not have one in my shop.)
