New railroaders to relocate, how?

Hello everyone,
I have written here before and your thoughts and opinions were valued. I am trying to hire out on a railroad and I'm in the process of talking to railroaders on the inside and also trying to get into a railroad training school in kansas. My question is when a person is hired on and gets relocated, how can someone with a wife and kids just up and go? They might have a mortgage, the kids's school, etc. How long does the railroad give them to move? It is tough enough for a single guy, how can a family man do it? I'm single but how does the process work?
Brian

Well different railroads offer differnt relocation plans. I don't really know wut the process would be if u have a family though :(. I do know that CSX pays for ur moving fees, and allows u to stay in a house or something that they own for free until u find ur own place. I beleive it's part of the emplyee benifits package. If your single it will be easier, than if u have a family. I need to find out more information on this subject because, I too intend on geting hired out on CSX when I'm elegible, which is in three years. CAN"T WAIT!!
LORD HELP US ALL TO BE ORIGINAL AND NOT CRISPY!!! please? Sarah J.M. Warner conductor CSX

It's no different from those of us in any industry. Dependent on your level and most don't qualify tey may buy your house so you are free to get going but in most cases you have to sell your house yourself. The company will pick up the moving expenses and in some cases give a sum of money to cover thing like drapes, carpet, painting, new license plates, drivers licenses, etc.. May not seem fair but if they have an opening and need someone you can hardly expect them to wait until someone deems the timing correct. Having done it several times it isn't as bad as it seems in theory plus you get to make new mistakes in purchasing a house that you didn't think of.
