2 modern diesel locos with the full Santa Fe emblem and letters in red-orange and silver behind a UP loco ran through my local tracks outside LA last week. I thought all the Santa Fe lettering was gone changed to BNSF, but there still are some out there it seems.
Have any photos? I'm pretty sure you saw patched units. There's a lot of ex-ATSF power out there in their original paint but with "BNSF" added to the cab just below the number. They still look ATSF, but on paper, they're BNSF locomotives
