Baldwin AC16 2-8-2

just wondering if somebody in the USA could tell me what the above loco was called,about twenty were shipped to QUEENSLAND,AUSTRALIA about June 1943 as lend lease were called AC16 and used the AMERICAN # from 216 through to 235.to australianise the # the letter A was attached to the rear of the #. ie. 216A ect. having a name would help me procure a loco for my HO scale layout.thanks Fred

These locomotives were built for the US Army during the Second World War and were also used in Africa, India and Malaysia, and in some South American countries. They were usually built for 3'6" gauge and for metre gauge. Locomotives of this design were also built by Alco as well as by Baldwin.

Because these locomotives were not built to standard gauge, they were not used in the USA (Although some may have run on the 3'0" White Pass and Yukon).

Again, since they were not standard gauge, no HO models of these locomotives have been made. It would be possible to make an HO model using 12mm (TT gauge) track, but as far as I know this has not been done.

thanks Peter,no wonder there was so much trouble receiving info on this loco,i have looked at the MIKADO and USRA HEAVY and thought of using either of these ,shall see
