The Western Maryland Scenic RR has began it's week end steam runs, from Cumberland MD, to Frostburg Md and return, a round trip of 28 miles. They run steam Friday Saturday and Sunday of the Season, from May to December.
In July, the weekend of the 9th 10th and 11th, there will be a combination Railfest/Canalfest at the Cumberland Station. There is a very nice National Park Service C&O canal exhibit on the ground floor of the station.
On the tenth only, the WMSRR will have short cab and caboose rides for sale.
CSX will provide shuttle buses from the station to the Cumberland CSX locomotive shops for an open house they will have, which is also on the tenth only. I've been to two of the shop open houses, very nice. The buses run on a very frequent schedule, so that you can stay at the shops as long as you wish.
