The Norfolk Southern line in Emporia VA

  • Smile Hi everyone.

I wonder if NS trains passing through the evening and through the night in Emporia close the I-95 hotels sites close to the US highway 58 ?

Is this railroad track are very busy between Norfolk and Danville in this state ? I hope trains passing only daytime.

I know the CSX North End sub is very busy line because CSX and Amtrak trains passing between Florence SC and Richmond VA any time in the day or night. I remember we are slept in a Hampton Inn hotel at Stony Creek close to the I-95 exit 33 in February 2005 and I heard seven times trains horns during the night and personally they don't bother me. But another person which share the hotel room with me had slept bad due to train horns the next morning.

So these Hampton Inn and Sleep Inn & Suites is not a good place to sleeping at this town. They must to say to CSX to apply a quiet zone at this small Southern Virginia town between Emporia and Richmond.

  • NS has a local that goes from Suffolk, VA to Emporia/Lawrenceville. however, they are quite rare. The NS line you are talking about is the old NF&D, but that line is gone from Lawrenceville to Danville since the mid 80's
  • Ok. Thank you. What does it mean NF&D ?
