The New York State Governor will cut in Amtrak's Adirondack funds.

  • SmileHello eveyone and Happy New Year 2009.

I learned a very sad news about the Amtrak's Adirondack train. Well, the New York State Governor wants to cut in Amtrak's Adirondack funds in 2009 and 2010 in a 2.5 millions of dollars.Sad

It means that the Amtrak passenger rail link between New York City-Albany and finally Montreal will cease to exist in future. So,in the north of New York's capitol from the Empire Service passenger rail link from Schenectady there's is no Amtrak's rail service to the north to Montreal included towns of Saratoga Springs,Fort Edward,Whitehall,Ticonderoga,Port Henry,Westport,Port Kent,Plattsburgh and Rouses Point will be excluded of Amtrak service.

Well,it's too bad. Because this rail service is the ten most scenic rail journeys in the world according the Albany's Times Union newspaper and according to the National Geographic Traveler Magazine that they said this New York City-Albany-Montreal passenger rail link is the most beautiful scenic rail link in the east of the Rocky Mountains in all North America.Sad

Here is the Albany Times Union article at this web address.

  • New York is hemorrhaging multibillions of our tax dollars. Hooray for every cut Gov. Paterson makes. The entire state budget needs to be overhauled, to eliminate all but the most critical spending. NYS has lived beyond its means for far too long. We taxpayers have been saddled with one of the most wasteful bureaucracies ever invented by the minds of politicians. My county, Chautauqua, suffers the third highest property tax rate in the entire nation even though we rank far below average in income. The only two worse than us are Erie and Niagara counties - also in New York. We have the highest gasoline prices in the nation, due mostly to high taxes and the guv wants to raise them even higher. School spending is lavish and wasteful. I could rant on and on, but you get the picture. It's too bad about Amtrak, but Albany has to do what it has to do before we go completely bankrupt.

  • SmileWell, they can also cut in subsidies in the Amtrak's Adirondack. Or privatize this service instead of New York State responsible for the administration and run the train.

But,the train continue to be in service anyway.Wink

Good bye and see you soon.
