The Canadian National Railways purchase recently the Quebec Railway Corporation and his railroad subsidiaries like the Ottawa Central Railway,Matapedia and Gulf Railway (Chemin de Fer de la Matapédia et du Golfe) included a rail ferry service Cogema to the north shore of the St.Lawrence River in Matane in Eastern Quebec and the New Brunswick East Coast Railway in this Maritimes province.

This deal excluded the Charlevoix Railway that begins at Quebec City to the town of Clermont in the province of Quebec and the Sydney Coal (Cape Breton & Nova Scotia Railway).
