Can somone tell me how a refrigerated box car keeps cold. I figure a compressor, but run by what? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Joe

in the old days they used ice. now they use refers powered by diesel motors and they have auto start systems so they start when the temp is to high and stops when they get to cold.

so they carry a supply of diesel fuel? How long can they run on a tank of fuel?

Joe refer cars have A motor thats ran by diesel fuel the motor runs a compressor the compressor has freon in it in stead of air and works just like a home refridgerator they can run about 3-4 days on a full tank of diesel[8D]
