CSX on BNSF???

While hauling grain today I met a train with two CSX locomotives on it pulling all CSX hopper cars (appeared to be loaded) on a BNSF mainline west of Holloway, MN heading west. Judging by the switch alignment in Appleton on my return trip, it looks like it headed west on the old Milwaukee main towards Ortonville, MN, Milbank, SD and beyond. I just thought they were a little bit out of their territory.

That is a bit off home rails for CSX, especially a complete train set. BNSF may have needed the extra equipment to fill in during a busy season. Stems back to the 70's when ATSF would lease (and even renumber) Chessie engines during power shortages.

Probably a run-thru with coal. CSX and NS units running on coal trains are pretty common on CP and BNSF here in the Twin Cities area.
