When rapid transit railroad cars are delivered: lets say overseas they arrive at the dock and then some diesel locomotive has to pull them from the boat into the yard and connect to the rapid transit rail system using track connections. If rapid transit cars do not have standard couplers, how is this procedure accomplished? Is there such thing as a coupler adapter or converter that attaches to a rapid transit coupler at one end and the other end is a standard FRA railroad coupler. By the way are Jersey Arrow 3's compatible with Silverliners since they look very similar.
Coupler adapters are used pretty routinely in matters like this. When IC's Highliners were being delivered from St. Louis Car Co. in the early 1970's, adapters had to be used for the special movements involved since the Highliners have Tomlinson couplers.
Rapid Transit cars are rarely shipped on their own wheels.
