Caboose restoration

  • I am currently part of a group restoring ICG 199845 as part of the Agriculture History Project at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds in Watonville, CA.  We are taking her back to her original livery and so need information as to exact locations for the lettering and logo.  I am new to railroading and so I will simply ask for information on the "Rainbow" (horizontal colored stripes to the lower left of the cupola.  Is there any source for  construction drawings?

  • Have you made contact with the Illinois Central Historical Society or checked their web site for possible photographs of an ICG caboose?

The web site is at http://www.icrrhistorical.org/

  • Probably the IC or GM&O historical Society would be your best bet.  be prepared that they won't like it being that far from Home :-)!  here in Romeoville Il. we have a pristine VGN C1 caboose that I know the VGN followers would love to see.  It's only 1000 miles from its home rails.
  •  you better put a fence around it with barbed wire, because as soon as someone sees you working on it for sure they will vandalise it. trust me.
