Hi,
I've been wanting to take some pictures of the freight trains that run near my home, but I'm not sure when they'll be around. This morning I saw one going under a bridge at about 6:45 a.m. It was in a good location for photographing.
My question is this: Do freight trains operate on a consistent schedule?
If I can count on the trains being in the same place at (generally) the same time, it should be easy to get some pictures.

Hey dlund! Welcome to trains forum!
Freight trains do operate on shedules(strict to be exact), but do not always pass the same place at the same time everyday. Some short line railroads can have trains passing about the same time evryday, but a big line railroad( which sounds like your case) have trains coming at all times. You could buy a scanner and listen for any crew talk and dispatch talk to see if any trains are coming to your area.
P. S. If all else fails, just build a little shack by the tracks so you'll never miss a train!!!!

Thanks for the welcome and for the response. I've considered buying a scanner, and its definitely something I plan to do in the near future.
In the meantime I'm trying to get a general idea of when the trains will be around. Hopefully I'll be able to find some consistency and get there on time for pictures.
