At least it is still on the rails.............more'n anyone can say for a lot of cabooses.

Well I got to go to Point today (Steven's Point). Today was kinda my lucky day. I got to see 4 WC locomotives. The first one I saw was the WC GP40 Flag Annvarsary Unit. But I got a horriable shot of it. It was infront of the round house so....what can you do. WC GP40 3014 was there doing some switching dutys. She was pretty faded, but it can add another GEEP into my collection. WC SW1500 1560 was sittin by the yard office, along with WC SW1500 1552. 1552 had the "tree" scheme which I have never seen. There also was 3 IC units. I have now realised that my camera Sucks, with a Capitial S. Really low mega pixles. I am unworthy to your guy's superior shots. You guys got some good shots. Very nice work.
BTW: I posted the link along with the photo if some of you guys have Dial Up.
I have a better ZOOM of WC 1560. So if ya want to see it ask.

First time for ever thing. Especially on this day. First time I have ever seen a WC Anniversary Unit. Flags are fading but still lookin' good.
This was the best shot. I could have got closer but that would of been MAJOR trespassing.

To the average by stander this unit wouldn't even look like a WC. She's starting to show some CN "Heritage" with a Re numbered numbers and red CN paint on replaced parts.
I took many pictures of this unit as it stopped right in front of us. I'm going to use these pictures for a reference to my SW1500, 1551.

Hopefully the IC is leading. I think I saw those pair last time I was there. Both where sitting on the engine tracks. EDIT: Nope, I checked. It was the same consist, but different numbers.

To bad she wasn't in GTW paint.

I have a better ZOOM on the farther away pic. But didn't show them because of the grainyness. So if you want ti see them ask.

Nice shots. Those units (almost all pictured besides the 3014 and the switchers) have all been down on the Transfer lately. The 2 IC units were with the WC 6934 a while back, the GTW 5934,CN 5411, and the IC 6008 were down here yesterday. Hopefully they get the flag unit back down tomarrow, or the pair of ICs would be NICE! Anyway, nice report.
Alec
Lots of neat stuff to be found at Point always. I suppose I really should get up there and catch the flag unit, as I've already caught the sesqui, so it would complete the set....
Alec, correct me if I'm wrong, but the New Brighton turns work out of Point, right? And what train numbers is that again (405/406 sticks in my mind, but that's probably wrong)?
Noah
well i got to go to point this morning
heres what i saw
Engine Track 1 Vacant
Engine Track 2 CN 6910
Engine Track 3 CN 6933
Off to the side WC 3027
WC 1552 doin the plover patrol today
WC 1560 yard switching
Noah, the Point to New Brighton is A405 & NB to Point is A406
Thank's all for the complment's. I still don't know what the local switcher here in town is. Last I've seen it was a CN/IC repaint. I didn't bring my camera which sucks. Before that was a WC grey goast. I wish CN would just have one loco there for the rest of the time. Not switch it ever 2 days with another. But I guess that gives you more of a chance to get diffrent qupiment. If CN does put a perment switcher here like WC did, it better be 2500, or some other WC loco.
Nice pics Brent. I wish I would of gone toady, could of got a better shot of 3027. To bad you couldn't see 3014. Kinda sucks she was on another train. I wish I could of saw the grey goast's too.
Alec, looks like you won't be getting the 2 IC's. They went out to GB (Green Bay) on 416. (I think that's the train ID.)
BTW: This thought just came to me. I saw all my WC GP40's in order so far. Knock on wood. You guys probably won't believe me but it goes like this. My first trip to Point was in Fall, I saw 3002 First in the yard(It's on digtal), then 3005 in the engine tacks (hard Film, my scanner won't work so I can't get it on here). On my second Trip I saw 3012. On this trip I saw 3014 first, then 3027. Now that is ironic.
yes i heard on the scanner that 2 IC's were headin to green bay & yes the point to GB is A416
alec i dont think ur gonne get the 2 grey ghost possibly.
Well, I finally got around to selecting the best of my photos from my trip to the Range (I got it down to between 50 and 60), and I got them all edited and uploaded. Rather than repost the trip report here, as it's reeeeeealy long. Instead, here's a thread in another forum (NTRES), where I posted the full report, or a link to a slide show if you prefer):
http://www.getphpbb.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=136&mforum=ntres2
If you don't feel like reading the whole trip report (yes, I know, it's long, so that's understandable), at least check out the slide show (the first link on that page). That goes through all the photos with just minimal captions. The report just provides more details.
And if anybody with a little more knowledge on the subject (like James or Max) finds something that I wrote that's wrong, please, let me know! I figure with three days of trying to remember stuff, I'm bound to have screwed up something...
The trains are indeed A405/A406. The inbound 405 get to NB, goes off duty, and the transfer crew (R916) gets on and does the interchanging. They go on at New Brighton, and tie up at New Brighton. Today we had the same stuff again, GTW 5934,CN 5411,IC 6008.
Brent, nice catches at Point. The grey units are actually ID'd as WC 6933 and WC 6910.
Great stuff Noah. The SDMs are on my list too, so I hope I can have as much luck as you!
Noah, Those pictures are NICE. I love them. Kinda makes me look forward to my trip to Owen, Ladysmith, Prentice, Bradly, Thomahawk, Merrial, and Wausau. Really nice shots! Saw 54ll in Point yesterday.
Alec, saw those same locos yesterday.

The Missabe Road: Safety First
Max, those BLEs are still up there, correct? I saw the 903 down at New Brighton in 2005.I really want to get up there for the DMIR, but these are also on the list.
Glad you guys liked the photos. I think they came out pretty well.Max, the way I understand it, the DMIR 869 is the only DMIR unit in orange (should have put that instead of "only orange unit" I suppose, as that's what I meant) It's a former BLE unit, but it's been patched for the DMIR for sure. According to information I have, the BLE and DMIR each swapped a unit in 1980 to compare operation and maintenance costs. The swap eventually became permanent, and so the pumpkin has been around ever since.
I did see one of the BLE tunnel motors while up there too, although I didn't get a photo. He was working with another DMIR tunnel motor on the Pokey to Proctor turn. We heard a DMIR locomotive say he was at MJ and wanted to get back to Pokey, but by the time we got around the lake he was already pulling into Pokey and wasn't worth the shot. We cold tell he had a orange Tunnel Motor second though, which has to be a BLE unit.
Oh, and one of the things I was going to ask about was the NSSR. When you guys leave the Depot in Duluth, how do you get the engine so it's leading Northward? Is there a leg of a wye or a loop back, or do you have to pull out to the main line and then run around the train to go north?
