Chris, How was the Green Bay show this year? I didn't go as my club set up at Green County Depot Days in Brooklyn, WI (just a few miles south of Madison) instead. I had a heck of a lot of fun there still, but the bad part is that the show is always the same weekend as Green Bay. Depot Days only gets maybe a few hundred people so it's more just of a weekend operating session for our club, but it's fun as it gives us a chance to get out and just run some trains without having to worry too much about keeping the crowd interested if something happens. Afterall, if the one person currently looking at the layout leaves, another one is bound to come along in a few minutes....
www.dpreview.com is definately a good website, and it's one of the ones I looked at quite a bit when deciding which DSLR to buy. What I like is that they had a side by side comparison of the Nikon and Canon equivalents of the camera I was looking at buying. That way I could figure out which was best for me (although the main factor was that the Canon was $200 cheaper!)

Taking a break from homework.......
Jake,
To be honest, I don't know much about those sorts of cameras, so I can't help ya there. You might consider going to your local camera shop (I suggest a shop dedicated to cameras, granted, they can be more expensive, but they have a lot of knowledge, etc, moreso than a department store camera section) and asking some ?s and perhaps trying some cameras out.
Noah,
I did not buy anything at the show, as nothing they had there really caught my eye. However, there was some nice stuff to be had. I am also saving up for the new Genesis F45s, which did not leave me in a spending mood! There were some GREAT layouts, with nice scenery, detailed equipment, and freindly operators. Overall, an enjoyable show, and the museam was lots of fun.
Colin,
Thanks for the welcome back!!!
TTFN,
Chris
Jake, sorry I missed your post before. I've never used a sony Camera myself to know for sure, but taking a look at the review from DPReview, it looks pretty good. 6.1 megapixel is good, 12x zoom (very, very good!), and 2848 x 2144 max size (about twice the average computer screen, which means you can get decent size prints out of it too). It also has a continuous shooting mode which is useful if you are shooting a fast moving train. It looks pretty good to me without actually having used it. One peice of advice I can give you is to always set the file size at the max possible, and just spend the money on a 512mb or a 1 gigabite card. While you may not need the large file size right now, you never know when you might down the road. It's easy to resize the file smaller, but it's awful hard to make the file size bigger after its been taken. That's one thing that I wish I had been told a little earlier...
Chris, Good luck on getting the Genesis F45! I've debated getting myself a set of three to paint up for the WSOR (they really did have three, the 1001-1003, and those are 3 of the 4 that are now on the MRL). Right now though I've got enough other projects....

RR Redneck wrote:Howdy y'all. Sorry I ain't been in lately. Been caught up with NASCAR! Man, I'll tell ya, that race yesterday was freakin crazy! When Jeff Gordon won that race and surpassed the intimidator himself (Dale Earnhardt, Sr.) for the all time cup victories, the Earnhardt fans were madder'n shook up hornets. How mad were they? THEY THREW THEIR BEERS AT JEFF GORDON'S CAR!!!! You know how hard it is to get any redneck to put down a beer, LET ALONE THROW IT?
lol amen, commandment number 11 thou shall not throw thy beer lol. Great race eithier way.

p.s. rrredneck when were you in disney world i saw a marching band in disney, red and white? i would laugh if you were in it. they had three steam locos there and they were more than likely drgw narrow gauge units.
Well you aint the only one with a birthday not to distant from now. I am turnin 16 (FINALLY!) on the 15th. Me and my favorite uncle are takin off to Austin the weekend for that! The Cuero High School band was marching in our green and black (yeah the BN suits) on Main Street USA in the Magic Kingdom. Sorry the red and white group weren't the one I was with.
I guess I'm late to the party. My name is Joe, I'm 14, and trains are my life. I live in Ames, Iowa and go railfanning almost every day! I volunteer at the Boone & Scenic Valley (the one with the Chinese 2-8-2). It is reassuring that the railfan is not a dying breed. I can't believe I've missed out on this post for all this time!\
I
uh this is the day it hurts.
my knee is in alot of pain and i still have to exercise. sucks.
ill check in later.
Ames is a neat little town. My great grandma used to live there, so when we would visit her I'd always go to the hobby shop on Main St and watch the UP (with back then plenty of CNW left) trains go by next to the depot.
