RODE AMTRACT FROM SANDUSKY,OHIO VIA NEW YORK TO JACKSONVILLE,FLA. ROAD COUCH TO NEW YORK,HAD THE INFAMOUS LAYOVER AND THEN A BERTH. I COMPARE THIS WITH THE RETURN TRIP BY AIRAND I MUCH RATHER USE AMTRACT(OR IS IT AMTRAK,AMTRAC?!)BECAUSE OF THE PRIVATE COMPARTMENT AND DINEING CAR MEALS. THAT WAS IN 2001 AND HOPEFULLY IT WILL STILL BE AVALIBLE IN THE FUTURE TO OTHER POINTS! LATER!

Last May I took an excursion on The Great Smoky Mountain Railroad. This was the second trip.I took the
trip from Bryson City, Nc to Natahala Gorge, and expereince some of the most beautiful country in the US.
The trip crosses a 100' high tressle and parallels Fontana Lake and the Nantahala River. It was about a 40 mile round trip. Dave

Took my mom and two boys to ride the train just today while my husband, dad and a friend of ours moved a bunch of our stuff over to our new place. Jay (2½) and I rode in the locomotive and Charlie (1) rode with his grandma in the caboose. Jay's spent the rest of the day asking "ride engine please?"

The last train ride I took was back in the early 90's when I rode the Royal Hudson on its excursion from North Vancouver to Squamish bC and was basically the purpose of the trip to ride the train we had to kill some time in squamish before the train got prepared for the return trip. It was a nice sunny and hot late May day it was beautiful.
spent alot of time outside where you enter the train listening to the sound of the engine.

At the end of October,, myson and I took the Carolinian 79-80 , from Greensboro to Rocky Mount and returned same day. Was a great day - beautiful weather. Had lunch in Rocky Mount, and time to walk around town. Was surprised to find that we picked the week of the North Carolina State Fare, and had a large group of children. The surprise was that we had room for them going up, but did not on the return trip. There were two handicapped cars on the return, which wiped out approx 24 seats right off. In any event, after some suffling, everyone got a seat, and we had an interesting conversation with the conductor. This is a great way to see some country, enjoy rail travel and relax.

Amtrak Acela Express from Wilm, De to NYC and back, for a work related training class. Saw some old PC cars on old sidings, Wilm Amtrack Shops - pretty cool. Acela really moves during some stretches of track.

My last train ride was on board (Ex Conrail) B23-7 3181 (CR 2802) and 3187 on the riverline local KI80 Kingston to Tomkins Cove Some 35 Miles and back to Kingston. The crew at that time knew me for a while and offered me to ride along. We reached Tomkins Cove to pick up some empty hopper cars (the crew was fussin on a hopper that won't open and spoted a wobbley car.) We headed into Haverstraw passing track to wait for a rack train, then disconnected the crew attached the FRED on the rear of the train and ran to the front to wait for the signal to clear. By that time we were on 3187 (B23-7S). 10 minutes later and we were on the way. Going though Newburgh was fun as we were along a road being chased by a fan. As we got back into Kingston, a "Skunk" train (tra***rain) passed us. I was droped off in the yard in Kingston and the train went to Selkirk. That was the best ride I've EVER had!

Last November, took a couple day trips out of the Gare du Midi station in Brussels, first to Antwerp then, the next day, to Amsterdam. Antwerp was to visit with a friend and check out the city. Amsterdam was to check out the Dutch Masters at the Rijksmuseum and drink lots of excellent Dutch beer. Rode in Era IV equipment, including an older double deck passenger train on the way back to Brussells from Antwerp. Definitely coveted a ride on the super sleek new Thalys PBKA. Next time in Europe, it'll be a Thalys ride between Paris and Amsterdam for sure!
Rode the Deutsche Bahn (DB) InterCity Express (ICE) from Frankfurt to Munich back in 1999. What an awesome train.
Still waiting for a good opportunity to ride the Acela and see how it compares to high speed European trains.

( The Impossible Railroad ) Campo California to Tecate Mexico. My uncle which was a ex engineer on the Santa Fe got to ride in the engine a great thrill for him. The trip is very nice and will be much nicer when they get the Carrizo Gorge section back in service. The Carrizo Gorge Trestle is one that all rail fans will want to cross.
