F-units purchased by the NS

  • Have heard the NS has purchased an F unit (or units) going to repaint into old Southern F-units numbers as the next ones in series and in the green and gold. Heard anything? bristoloperator

  • They are at the Altoona Juniata Shops for evaluation....latest reports are that it will be sometime in early 2007 when they are released from the Shops....They will power NS' Office car train.

  • Now that is going to be something worth traveling to see. Why didn't they just keep the E-units and paint them in Southern's colors? Well, maybe the change of CEOs had something to do with it.

  • Yep the CEO change was the main thing to get the F-Units. I belive when Goode was still the CEO they had money problems then sold the E's. Money went up and Wick (forgot last name) bought them plus he is a closet railfan.

  • Wick Mooreman ( two OOSS??) sic- hope he starts passenge service up on Washington new Orleans corridore.  It would be nice to ride again
  • Humm...this sounds interesting. I do wonder what will NS do with the F units if and when they purchase them? I think NS might use them on their employee specials, that would be nicer than seeing a regular road swicher pulling the speacials all the time. Big Smile [:D]

  • The F units are already paid for all they need is an inspection in Altoona and a coat of Southern Tux Paint.

They are going to use them on their employee specials according to NS they are expected to make their debut around April that means the first trip maybe to Augusta for the Masters.
