FYI:
I have in my posession 2 (two) buckets/pails?

Dimensions: 13"L 10"W (at widest area) and
7"H
I have been told they were lunch pails used to sell box lunches on trains. They are made of steel I believe - rusted when I bought them.
Could someone confirm this for me and tell me what circa (1800s?) they would have been used in.

I require this info for a historical society presentation.

 I own 1 .... don't know about railroad useage ... mine's excatly like one laura had on little house on the prairie if that helps to date them . Add a mason jar and a tin cup inside ... that's what they did then to hold food and drink from . They usually wrapped their sandwiches in clean cotton cloth . Way before waxed paper and saran wrap ... lol . The sandwich cloth also doubled as their napkin . If you can find any bone handled fork or spoon it brings the value sky high !
