European railroad fans?

  • I'm new to the forum and I was wondering if there are any readers who model/watch European railroading? My wife and I are Americans working and living in Moscow, Russia now and I can't believe how much railroading goes on here. I knew that Europeans in general depended more on mass transportation that we do in the states but WOW.

  • You can't beat european trains. America is 3rd world compared to them. Love those emu's, tgv's and ICE trains!
Nataraj -- Southern Pacific RULES!!! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The GS-4 was the most beautiful steam engine that ever touched the rails.
  • Well, you can have 'em all.Wink [;)]

Yes, Europe depends more on mass transport of people by train, but freight is a completely different ballgame.

Me, being a freight lover living in Holland, I look to the US for my satisfaction. Someone interested in a house swap Smile [:)]Wink [;)]?

PS: it is cool to ride on of them fast badboys though... soaring across France at 300 KM/h is an experience in its own right.
Failure is not an option -- it comes bundled with Windows Microsoft: "You've got questions. We've got dancing paperclips."
  • You definitely don't get the heavy freight moves in europe we have in the states.

The diversity of the passenger trains in europe is awesome. I always enjoyed travelling in Switzerland where you can take five different trains from standard gauge to narrow gauge to narrow gauge cog and all versions of electrification and diesel to get to the top of one mountain.

  • Don't forget the Intercity 125 HSTs they are the fastest diesel high speed trains.
