Hello from new member

  • Greetings to the Forum from SRS 4501.  Yes that's right, Southern Railway System and of course their fameous steam locomative, 4501.

So why this for my member name?  Well, my Grandfather worked the railroad in NC as a conductor until his death in 1910.  My father was a passenger agent for The Southern RR first, then freight agent next until his retirement after 30 years.  We lived in Valdosta GA, Orlando, Tampa and Miami Florida.

He is gone too but these two men instilled in me a love for the Railroad that is hard to explaine.  I never worked on any line but still love it so.  I have a new grandson now, 2 years old and he is fasinated by trains.  I want to begin building a garden RR for both of us to enjoy.  I will be putting together plans along with research this fall.

So hello everyone from SRS 4501........................

  • Wecome to the party!  I am a Great Northern fan myself, but hey that is the great part to the hobby, each to his/her own.  Hope you find some useful information, but sometimes you have to be careful where you step in here! Big Smile [:D]

  • Like you, my forum name will tell you where my love of trains came from.  I also have a 2-year-old grandson who is crazy about trains, and I'm doing what I can to encourage it.  You will find the various members of the forum entertaining, knowledgable and informative, sometimes all at once.  I'm also sure that you have a lot to contribute, and I'm looking forward to seeing your postings.
The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

I can still recall the Crescent gliding into the station at Meridian as if it were yesterday. Hope to talk to you again in the future.
