Trains Web site

  • Most of the time when I accessTrains.com, I get right into the News Wire or Forums without any hassle and without any interruption.  But every once (or twice) in a while I get the error message "You must be a member to access....etc." I AM a member!  Why does that happen?  And why only on occasion?  I guess I can understand it if I needed to re-enter my password every time to gain access, like some other sites, but why only sometimes?  It's annoying.  Can someone please explain?

  • You 'puter probably just ate the cookie with the stored password & stuff. (Happens to me on another site about twice a month). Really nuthin to be done about it but to re-enter the username & password. If you have trouble remembering that info (due to multiple ones on various sites or CRS), you should probably write them down and stick them on the side of your monitor. (note to self- follow own advise)

If you want REALLY annoying, yesterday morning Firefox (Mozilla's browser) ate ALL my bookmarks. All attempts to rescue them so far have failed. I had about 75 sites bookmarked, many intended for updating my links page, and POOF! I've only managed to relocate (google) about 15 of the most used ones.

  • I've found that the Trains site bookmark disappears on me monthly like clockwork. (First week of the month.) Perhaps it has an expiration date. (This is not related to the new site; it did so before the changover too.)

Make a backup copy of your "Favorites" [aka bookmarks] once every few weeks and put it in "My Files."

  •     it happens to me too once in a while and so i find it annoying,i hate it when they ask to please log in.and so i'm affraid that we as railfans are stuck with the new design, which in itself is not bad but it could be improved upon, especially when the site asks you to log on again to get to your account or to read astory,it has happened to me a few times so i can understand where you are coming from.
