johnny cash who as many know died friday & was known by many railfans as one of the few musicians who wrote & sang songs of the railroads & trains . He went as far in the 70's to produce a program called "riding the rails" which showed his love & understanding of trains . he will be sorely missed

Although not soley a train song singer, train songs wouldn't have been the same without him. Facinated by other's pain, suffering, and hardship it's only natural, it seems, that railroad songs would fit into his unique style. I like all his songs, but my favorite train song versions of his would have to be "Casey Jones" and "The Legend of John Henry's Hammer," but "Folsom Prison Blues" will always be my all time favorite (based on a real escape by crashing a train through the wall!)
