In watching the TV coverage of the US Open held at Cog Hill, trains could be heard and seen. What is the railroad beside Cog Hill ?
Thanks,
Bob Blackwelder
The Western Open is played at Cog Hill, which is a first-class public course. The US Open hasn't been played there, yet.
There are two railroads close by. The BNSF Transcon (ex-ATSF) and the IC (ex-GM&O) are roughly parallel but separated by the Sanitary & Ship Canal at Lemont. UP has trackage rights over the IC line. The IC line is closer to Cog Hill but has less traffic. The topography of the area would suggest that the BNSF line is probably the one that was seen and heard.

BNSF being former ATSF is correct.
Other track ID is not totally correct -- it is shared operations IC and CN, with . Former ICG, former GM&O, original trackage laid by Chicago & Alton. Rights to UP, CSS&SB, KCS, Metra and Amtrak. Double main.
Both lines are north of Cog Hill. CN one-third mile. BNSF one mile.
Cog Hill is my home course.
