NS Heritage Day at NC Transportation Museum

  • Did anybody go to this today? I did, and I had a great time. It was very hot outside though. The president of NS himself was there for the dedication of a restored N&W Combine Car that is handicap accesible and Southern FP7-A unit number 6133. They busted a bottle of champagne on the front of it. I tried out the Locomotive Simulator, and I thought it was fun. But the coolest part was that there was a guy watching a lot of us do this, and he later told us he was doing an article for Trains Magazine for Simulators! Wow! I would have ridden the train (It was air-conditioned) but I didn't feel like walking all the way back there to get there, so we left. They had N&W GP9 unit number 620 pulling the passenger train, Southern GP-30 unit number 2601 pulling the caboose train, Southern FP7-A unit number 6133 and Southern E-8 unit number 6900 pulling the members only train, and FM-44 unit number 1860 doing a cab ride. They also had a SD70M-2 unit there that you could go inside; I didn't and now I wish I had. It had one of those new "electronic bells", which I recognized when it didn't sound like a normal bell. The roundhouse was spectacular as always, although I was a bit dissapointed at the fact that the turntable was out of order. Feel free to comment on your day if you went!!!

P.S.: I have changed my screen name from Pokemon Fanatic 999 to Q2 Duplex. It is one of my favortie experimental locomotives, and I wanted that screen name. That, and I think I was confusing some people on this board with my unique screen name. Lol

The name you chose probably refers to the PRR Q2's.  They were not exactly experimental since the PRR built twenty five of them for road service and used them for almost seven years.  They needed some refining, but they were new and great locomotives at a time when diesels were taking over.

I was fortunate to get to see them in Chicago under steam in 1950.
