  • How do i post pictures on the message i need to know why a inline diesel engine does not have a intake and exhaust vavlue?

    I will use this post to ask my other qeustions as well

  • I'm not sure what you are asking but a INLINE (not incline) diesel is either 2 cycle (EMD) or 4 cycle (GE, ALCO, etc.).

  • I think you mean an INLINE engine not an incline engine and no engine can operate without a way for the new fuel/air mix to enter and the spent gasses to exit from the cylinder. some diesels have ports in the side walls in place of valves to simplify the number of compnents. These are sealed by the piston rings on an upstroke of the piston so that when the fuel is ignited it pushs down the piston and then exhausts through the ports that open on the downstroke.

    IT SAYS ON EMD's OFFICAL WEBPAGE (http://www.emdiesels.com) THAT THE GM16V265H IS A 4 STROKE ALTOUGH EMD USED TO USE 2 STROKE.....4 is more efficent

  • That you can't say they are "all" two stroke.........4 is more efficant therefor will most likly be where EMD is headed in the future ..........Who made this a rule just because a company has a standerd dosen't make it a rule....never heared of any EMD four vs. Two stroke rule in the GCOR book or the
