When I was very young I used to take the train from McAlester Oklahoma to Springfield Ill. I remember the train to St Louis was just a bunch of random old cars thrown together. We changed at St Louis to a chrome plated car train with full dining car and smoking car lounge at the end, with re carpets and plush red velvet upholstery. I assume this train went on to Chicago? I remember the name was either the "Comet"or the "Meteor" Now I see some posts on the net of a train named "The Meteor" or "the Silver Meteor from Oklahoma city to St Louis but I dont remembdr changing trains in OK city but only once at St Louis. Can anyone verify the train I took?

Very unlikely they were chrome plated, probably just the standard stainless steel cars. Can you give us an aprox date of when you were "very young?"
Train schedules have changed a LOT since Amtrak. The Silver Meteor is primarily an east coast train now. New York City to Miami.
Currently, the only trains that connect those two cities are the State House, The Texas Eagle, or the Ann Rutledge.

The "Meteor" was the name of a St. Louis-Oklahoma City train which ran on SLSF. The only stainless-steel train of which I'm familiar which ran from St. Louis to Springfield would be one of Illinois Terminal's streamliners.
The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul
