  • My favorite is the GP15D. The various EMD 645-powered switchers have always been a favorite and this is the only switcher in current production.
The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

  • Definately the SD70 series (especially with the flared radiators). Its basically the modern day version of the SD40-2.

  • I believe EMD is also producing a 2000 hp version of the GP15D called the GP20D. I'm not sure how well orders are going though. I've always been a loyal EMD fan, but I have to say that I love the look of the C40-9's and Super-7's (standard cabs of course. I live next to a NS main and I'm beginning to hate the C40-9W's.) I think I heard that Athearn is going to produce an SD70M with flared radiators. It's still in the pre-production stage, but look for it at Chicago.

As a BN fan, it was tough for me to leave the SD40-2 off this list. I knew if I had it on the list, I'd have to add a C30-7 or Dash-8 to keep the GE fans happy. Plus, as much as it pains me to say, the SD40-2 isn't exactly "modern" anymore.

  • The GP30, due to that great cab look will always be a great one.
Today for looks I am a great GE fan.

  • I do have a fondness for those ATSF GP60M's. I can still remember photographing them in and around Fort Mad IA and watching them trackside at speed. But my all time favorite is still the ATSF & CN SD75's.
