Favorite modern locomotive

  • I do have a fondness for those ATSF GP60M's. I can still remember photographing them in and around Fort Mad IA and watching them trackside at speed. But my all time favorite is still the ATSF & CN SD75's.
  • EMD SD60 or SD70 but my personal favorites are SD40-2's.Espicially Norfolk Southerns ex-NW SD40-2's #6073-#6206.These units have older trucks (such as the ones on SD45's) a bell on the long hood and still carry their original numbers.[8D]

  • Although not as modern as some of the loco's already mentioned I definately consider the GP38 & GE U-boats as really fine machines. Everything else are just a bunch of pansies. JUST JOKING! JUST JOKING! Really!! The newer loco's are certainly much more powerful, and they sure do rattle my teeth, but what is horsepower but thunder under control. Now if you want to get your heart pounding, just take a gander at my nominations. It's like looking over an old 'Vette or T-bird-------------ya,right.

  • There simply is no other locomotive like an SD90; and anybody who knows every aspect of what this machine is designed to do can not disagree.

  • Mine is the SD40-2!! I like them in any road! But, I also like the SD40T-2 in Rio Grande! I am a huge Rio Grande fan!! My cousin James R. Griffin got me into the Rio Grande!! Thought I'd say he's my cousin!

  • Well seeing that the Dash 9 is my favourite locomotvie to see when starting a 120 car train from stop. Its so great with the rumble of the engine, feeling it shake all your insides and then multiplying that by 2 for having 3 of them.

    I'ts great

10000 feet and no dynamics? Today is going to be a good day ...

  • Mine, no matter what new locomotive come out, hands-down, my favorite is the SD40-2. The best locomotive for shortlines, regionals and Class 1s. I also like the SD70 series, cool locomotives. I'm a big GMD fan, bit of MLW also
