Some Random thoughts and questions about trains

  • Hey Guys, I haven't posted in a while, but in these past few weeks some thoughts and questions about trains have popped into my mind. I thought I might ask you guys some of them:

    1. Now, it's been a long time since I watched Thomas the Tank Engine, but I had some questions about it
    a. What type of locomotive is Edward based on? He looks like an internally connected 4-4-0, but I wasn't sure.
    b. What type of diesel is Boco? I've seen pictures of other british diesels, but never one that looked like him(and in the earlier episodes, he was about the only diesel that was liked by the other engines)
    c. What type of diesel is Daisy modeled after? She seems like a one car DMU unit, but if you know please tell me.

    2. Are there any Big Boy Locomotives scheduled for restoration? I thought it would be cool to see one of them in action. Also, did any of you see "Giant Machines" on Modern Marvels on the history channel today?. It was talking about it, but it showed some footage of a T1 Duplex. It showed it speeding up and going past what I thought was a Q2 duplex. I had never seen one on footage before, and I thought it was the coolest thing to see it going down the rails[:D].

Well, that's what I've been contemplating these past few weeks. Also, enven though my screen name is Pokemon Fanatic 999, rest assured I am a trainbuff. I am a fan of Nintendo too. I knew that this name wouldn't be in use and that it would be unique. Happy Railroading everyone!

  • #2. No.Never. Too costly. Resotration would be a big one and then maitnencing the tracks after the driver pounded the sh** out of them wouldnt be too fun.

  • For your first question, here is a website that shows the real-life prototypes that all of the Thomas The Tank Engine characters are based on.
