No don't put them in a old shell... Duh I am saying get brand new EVERTHING. Not a re-build at all. The Hummer they use the same basic design and update it for there newer models. And the F40PH Instruction manual does mention HEP but the AC generator is attached to the main engine so I don’t know if that counts. Like I said they should have put a HEP unit in the nose.

Can you please just give up. The Genesis IS a better unit. This little "plan" you have here IS too much money. It WOULDNT even be the same engine like Matt said. Give it up, its not going to happen.

No it is not it would cost the same if not cheaper. The Railroad would be getting a new locomotive that is a updated desighn of a F40PH you could call it a F41PH.

IT'S OUTDATED!! Railroads don't want the old F40, they want something new! We're not even on the same topic anymore, you're just whining about wanting them to get a new engine with a similar carbody! Railroads DON'T WANT THAT! THEY WANT CHANGE AND PROGRESS!!

Ham549 you remind me of an Owner Op of a truck I know. He has truck built in the 70's gets 5 mpg and he still will not replace it. The reason why he says is that I do nat have a payment anymore. He spends more in repairs than he would in a payment. Now lets look at the F40PH in realistic terms. Looking at an avrage mileage of around 2-3 million miles age of now 30 years. Now look at the P42 doe not need to run at full throttle to produce HEP also more fuel efficent larger tanks. In order to make to rebuild the F40 to the current standards need to replace the engine with a 12 cyl 710 series plus also replace the electronics and the fuel tanks all the frames and trucks and TM cost around 2 mil a unit P42 is 1.5 mil

i agree. his comment was uncalled for. i, however, dont want anyone GHETTO driving a train. regardless of their race. ghettos and railroads dont mix

i'm pretty sure at least one F40PH will be preserved. so dont be TOO bummed

and the genesis still looks better

What's Up with the GHETTO thing cause how are you going to judge somebody off the bat???Most railroad engineers dont go to college.It would pretty much be like me sayin i dont want a REDNECK driving my train i mean if they dont derail or cause a wreck or anything then i dont really care

whoa whoa whoa. i said ghetto because of his ytmnd with that. the F40PH in it had all sorts of "bling" on it and goofy paint. then it had hydraulics in the wheels. when i say ghetto, i mean people who would do that to the train. i am NOT trying to be racist. no one race is all you'll see in the ghetto. i've seen all sorts of people of different races in ghettos. i'm a very accepting person and i highly disaprove of the comment made by that other member. equal rights, man, equal rights. the only people i hope never drive trains are people with bad personalities and people who lack the skills. therefore i dont want myself to drive a train...yet [:D]

we should get back on topic. F40PH, had a good run and now gets to be replaced. i dont think every last F40PH on the face of the Earth will be scrapped though. i'm sure at least one will be preserved as railroad history
