New Penn Station at Farley Post Office

Is the 8th Avenue construction at Farley Post Office related to the new Penn Station conversion? Are we getting a new train station in NYC? Or is this a dead issue?
Port Authority should take over NYP and fund it just like the airports and shipping ports,. BUT this is America!
Any news on a new Penn Station is appreciated.

In all likelihood, this boondoggle should not go forward, since the problem is with the station's trackage capacity. The current Penn station, hidden under Madison Square Garden, is too expensive to replace! But, if MSG were to want to replace the current facility, then the rules change. Albany, that den of thieves, wants to kill Amtrak north/west out of New York City, and west to Montreal PQ,Niagara Falls NY, Rutland VT and Toronto ON, and run Metro-North service to Albany-Rensselaer only, from GCT or Penn Station. (which would help the crunch in Penn station a bit) Since the subject is here, a reminder, DO NOT even think of railfanning anywhere around Amtrak, Long Island or Metro-North stations east of Utica[:(]. You will at best be harrassed, and at worst, arrested as a terrorist!
