  • Red04StangGT,

You know, reading your bio here --- male, single, conductor (soon to be a hogger?), muscle car, big diesel loco --- I'm 61 years old and haven't envied a younger person in many, many years, but....... [:D]

I hope your life is as much fun as it can be!

And thanks for the vid! I did "enjoy".
Whether your life is good or bad, trains will make it better!
  • Thanks man, hey I just turned 21 too haha been out here about 2 years

Thank you so much for sharing the video! It was like a cab ride! Nice car, by the way! [:D]
  • I've got a few questions for ya Red04StangGT if you don't mind. I am assuming your a conductor on the BNSF. From what I understand, you hire on to the railroad as a conductor trainee, then become a conductor, and then can be promoted to engineer. Here are my questions:

    1. How do you get paid? (Not asking how much) Is it salary or what is it based on. Do you get paid more and more as you gain seniority? etc.

    2. How does the travel work? I assume you have only one home terminal, but do you just have one away terminal or can you have more than one? Do you always run the exact same route or are there a few routes you can run?

    3. Do you get a more stable work schedule as you gain seniority or is it always irregular and whenever they need you?

    4. How much are you away per week on average?

Anything you can tell me about this is helpful. It seems like an interesting profession, one that I may want to consider. Thanks.

    1. Each trip is a set trip rate as far as $$$ goes.
    2. You can bump around to different pools out of your home terminal depending on what you can hold.
    3. You will always have a screwed up schedule when your on the road...as far as the yard once you get some time under you, you can hold daylights in some places.
    4. I'm away alot b/c its just me, I have no kids, no wife/gf so I work as much as I can and make the paper.
    5. If you make plans every week/weekend with friends that always wwant to do stuff you mize well tell them it wotn be like that anymore b/c the railroad owns you after you hire out
  • A little frustrating with dial-up. But awesome nevertheless.
  • Why did you repeat Box 1 on a release?
