  • Alec, I think you will like this http://www.trainweb.org/cgw/photos-bin/cgwry57.html
The Great Western had 9 SD40s, #401-#409. All exist today (most (if not all) are on the IC&E) I can't believe I don't model CGW[B)] I was going to model IANR in the present, since it's my favorite shortline and it's the closest RR to me. But CGW would've been a lot closer.. more specifically, next to my house.
  • You never can make up your mind what you model lol. The IC, Than the CNW, than the CGW lol. Anyway, thats a pretty neat site.

  • I just got back from the Atlanta area heres some stuff I saw CSX 8715 in CRQ colors and had a nice CR horn,NS GEVO in primer # 7518,NS 9253 Operation Lifesaver 25th Aniversary engine, ex BNSF GP38-2 NREX in Black,White, and Orange colors, and TONS of NS engines in NS DeButts refuel yard which I have pics of and also along with those NS's was a FURX ex KCS and 1 of few WC SD45's hanging with the NS to STAY ALIVE FROM THE DEAD WC SD45's.EDIT: After the Primer GEVO is Chattanooga,TN.

Rick- I belive the CSX C36-7's are to OHCR and orginal CSX C30-7 are unknown CSX 7037 is still alive and kicking 7001 in Waycross,GA at Progress Rail to be Rebuilt.

CSX has no order for more ES44DC's to extend pass 5400 but are clear until the 5500 mark.

  • According to my "Kerr" roster, CSX very well, is supposed to go up to 5499 with the GEVO's by this year. I don't know if it is true or not, but that is just what it says. (This roster has had error's found).

Oskar, this rest of the post is written for you, no-one else has to read, I went to Berea with my friend yesterday and today. Yesterday was a rip off because of the major flooding because no trains were running on CSX through Berea. NS was hardly running either.

CSX Q110, a UPS mail train, was re-routed through Canada. Another intermodal train was, Q164, was re-routed about 30 miles south of Berea on the New Castle Sub., which is where we went after an hour and a half of nothing at Berea.

We sat for two hours along the New Castle Sub. without a move until we made one towards the car. Man was it nice to see, CSX 5001 (Diversity in Motion) and CSX 5004 pulling an empty stack.

Then on down to Akron Yard, we right away caught CEFX 3151 and a NS-patched Conrail on CSX. Then CSX 4801 and BNSF 6779 (SD40-2) came by. After a little more waiting, CSX 5364 (ES44DC), CSX 756 (SD70MAC) and CSX 8420 (SD40-2) finally came by.

The next day (today) we went to Berea and it was a whole different story. CSX started us off with CSX 5221 (ES44DC) and CSX 606 (AC6000CW) pulling a stack.

Oskar - A NREX ex-QNS&L was in NS's Yard today (Rockport Yard) just to let you know about NS leasers up around here.

Then NS sent two SD70's by, 2570 and 2573, one which was with a ES40DC, 7541, which was painted.

After several trains passerby, CSX started kicking up again with a e-b manifest (Power: 7610, 8141 and 7581). Then another e-b Q164, back on it's tracks flew by (Power: 5336 and 5395). Then a w-b manifest came (Power: CSX 785 [YN3 SD70MAC] and 8523).

A few minutes later, CSX 9032 and a UP SD70M FLEW by with a hotshot Q110, obvioulsy back on it's tracks. Moments later, another w-b train came on CSX, a stack with a GEVO and SD50. (numbers are unknown)

Oskar - sorry that this railfan report was so long, but I just really wanted to inform you about this. Thanks!

    Rich

  • alec, I'm think I'm going back to (and sticking with) CGW.
  • So I got my stuff from DTO today and started decaling my GP38-2. I couldn't get the decals to stick. then it hit me [banghead] decals need a glossy surface to stick. I ususally spray everything with gloss before decaling. So, I'm waiting for the gloss to dry so I can continue decaling.

Just curious what do you think I should model (everyone)- IANR or CGW?
(of course if I go w/ CGW a few IANR GP38-2s are bound to show up[:P] and vice versa)

  • Alec, I agree. Besides- I can't decal IANR. It's not going very well, but CGW is easy.
  • Methinks you should get yourself a CNWHS membership- www.cnwhs.org
  • When I was in Houston.. well coming home up along HWY 69 to go back to St. Louis (blah) I saw an SD40T-2 w/ what looked like SP colors.. but had the lettering HLCX which was faded. It was surprise to see a tunnel motor out in Okla!
  • Booyakasha! And Hicks slides in for the win!
I GET TO RIDE BEHIND 2816 IN TWO WEEKS!!
150 glorious miles, Golden to Calgary, through the route that trains mag said was the most scenic!
And my weekend wasn't too shabby, either! Went to Jasper, saw a few 'first of's, hung around one cureve, met another Calgary railfan and one from Europe, and got trapped in a cabin by a forest fire....with two LOVELY young ladies! [;)]
Yesterday I started summer school, and today, I lost all faith in it. I'm doing grade 12 English because I don't have room for it in my timetable next year, and I'm the youngest one in the class by a year and a half. And the oldest one is four or five years older. It sucks a lot, and pretty much everyone's a total tool.
Today I went to the driving range in anticipation of FINALLY getting the first round of golf of the year! And I saw an absolutely amazing number of MOW vehicles, ujnfortunately I only had two shots left on the roll, lol.
And now that I've been bashing out this abridged summary of recent events for a good hour, on and off, I think it's time for me to check my email for replies for girls of the female persuasion...or maybe alexander.

Yeah, UP is a big fan of standardization, so all of the cool engines that SP accumlated over the years were quick to go. About the last thing leasers (or rent a wrecks, if you will) care about is what the engine is designed to do (or where to do it in this case), as long as it runs.
