TEEN RAILFAN PLACE-LET'S TALK TRAINS! Thread Locked

  • noah make shure to get some B&O pic's i have gone to the B&O muesem also but i was like 3 or 4 so i dont really rember any thing. and if you get close to strassburg pennsilvaina BEGG AND PLEED your parents to take you to the strassburg railroad they have Western Mariland's No. 90 ( a 2-10-0 ) that they just refinished. and the last thing that you HAVE to go see is the cass railroad in south carolina its another steam railroad but it uses shayes thoes are my favroite steam locomotives ( besides C&O chalengers ) what is everyones favroite type of steam locomotive?

so today's agenda for me includes working on my N scale layout , tis comming allong quite well, its a santa fe layout with a coal mine on it . im just putting on the grass and tree's but im still a long way from finshing it.

the other night i had an idea for system we could all use, my idea is a break for train cars, that is a model train car. my idea is to take some rubber, then glue it to the bottem of a screw, drill a hole in the bottem of a train car above a wheel, then put the screw through the hole then take a wing nut and glue it to the base of the car, (over the hole) then when you need to aply the breaks you take off the shell of the box car ( or whatever you put it on ) and take a screw driver and tighten it to aply breaks and lossen it to relice breaks i have yet to make the prototype but what do you guys think?

  • headlights are the only way to go. noselights are ugly on anything. i swear. they ruin the look. whenever i see the front of a locomotive, i can always kinda see a face on it. i cant help it, but it always stands out like one. noselights look like some goofy mouth on it.... sounds weird, but i cant help but see it that way...

  • Noah, I might be heading to the Model Railroad Convention too. I live right above Philly. When you come, ask your parents if they would take you to the Moris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania, in Chestnut Hill. They have a garden railroad, and they should be advertised in the form for the Convention. I will be at the Arboretum on the 4th of July, and the following Saturday.

Mind if I call ou crazy, or at the very least absolutely insane? [:p]
Strange that you compare it to a face - If I think of it that way, then I can see the headlights as a pair of zits stuck in between the eyebrows... (Which on the newer SD70s are clearly ugly!)
For my main case, I take Canadian Centuries.
http://reay.net/cdnmlw/CanadianNational/6-axle/cn2013.htm Doesn't that just SCREAM engine? Looks good, too! The way that the headlights obstruct the 'peak' on the cab of American Centuries doesn't work at all....

Now THAT is a good-looking engine!

Dontcha love it? If this doesn't convince you, it will take an expert with a huge photo bank to...
As for high-headlighted ACes and M-2s - Although they aren't as ugly as say, a K-M diesel-Hydraulic, they do rank up there. (What was wrong with the BL20-2...looked like a late-model GP40-2) Firstly - Numberboards jutting out looking good? lol! Second, the headlights are also jutting out in a smilar manner - Things jutting out of lovomotives in that manner are generally ugly...

  • Zits between the eyebrows!!??what? I belive we should call you crazy those SD70's look BEAutiful besides the MRL SD70ACe's, All SD70M's all look good besides the BNSF SD70's with the nose lights how can you not like the High lighted SD70M's. The best SD70's were CR SD70's now CSX those look awsome.

I am not sure if you have CP red Syndrome but since when did lights turn red on locos, Zits are red not whiteish. Those Centuries don't look good! We say D9-40CW's look good and you say those look good, ok. BL20-2 looks like a GP40(-2)?? looks like a hunk of metal comapred to this NS GP40-2 http://www.nslocos.com/ns3000.html .

  • i dont know what that locomotive is screaming, but the noselights make it look like it's shrieking a karate cry in a high pitched voice. or like it's whistling.

and for the record, i hate U boats. there's not a lot i like from GE. the images honestly wont help.

  • Lord Atmo, I hate all GEs, so there.

As for headlights, I prefer them 'tween the numberboards but they look good in the nose too. IANR GP38-2s have a mix- some have high lights, others have nose lights.

I am offended! Those are classic ALCo century units, not some crummy mid-70s GE! Either we shall step outside to settle this like men, or your honor will be forever besmirchd!

didnt go to altoona today. wish i knew when wayfreights came through. ummm

  • The only new locomotive I like is the SD70m-2 and SD70ACe. They are the only locos that have a standard control stand and they don't bounce all over the place like the SD75I and the other ugly units.

  • Lordatmo....................

    How does this look ugly?

Now, im not the biggest fan of noselights on say, a CSX unit, but on a CP unit is just looks so GOOD! And how dont you like GE noselights when, oh I dont know, thats how they are SUPPOSED to be since GE has that as a standard. NS just makes them look worse with high lights. ANd SD70Macs and SD75Macs look best with noselights.

But, that sad, i do like the classic look, between the numberboards.

This looks ugly though. BNSF puts them in the stupidest spot.

  • no.. that BNSF SD70MAC does not look good at all. noselights dont look as bad on GE, but not a whole lot of GE looks good. save for those spartan cab dash 8s and dash 9s. and funny how they have headlights.
