TEEN RAILFAN PLACE-LET'S TALK TRAINS! Thread Locked

  • Yep, yet another of the UP copyright extention units has been painted. It was interchanged to the WSOR a few weeks back and sent to the WSOR Horicon Shops where it was painted last week. I'm kind of curious to see it myself. It should be unveiled sometime in a few days or a week or so from now.

BTW, the unit is not 1989 because it is supposed to be one number above the KATY, it is because that was the year the UP bought the DRGW(or was it that the SP bought the DRGW and then the UP bought the SP a few years later. I don't remember, but I do know 1989 is the year the DRGW dissappeared into some other railroad). The units before it follow this same numbering scheme, and the units after this should follow the same way too, so like the CNW unit will be 1995, ect.

  • Whats up.
I decided to go to Modoc Railway Academy once i graduated from high school.
I want to then join up with Union Pacific and become a railroad engineer.
  • Two more days of school...two more days...then some exams...
I installed windows 2000 successfully, and suddenly my computer sucks a LOT less. It's actually useable!
So I just cross-posted my panoramic pics, and I might as well post them here while I'm at it.
In the first photo, the SD40 and GP35 were/are being painted by me. And in the 3rd pic, for those fans in the east, those are a pair of SOO Line 7 post boxcars. [:D]

From top to bottom: Redrock Canyon Curve (There are tracks down in the canyon too!) my favorite photo location, and on the right the Virginia enginehouse. (On the half of the layout that came from plan #48 in 101 Track Plans for Model Railroaders
2: Virginia townsite (Under reconstruction) includes a passing siding, one car storage track and a really awesome coal mine my dad built.
3: Hicksville and the yard at East Cornerville. Another good photo location.
4: The yard at East Cornerville
5: Cornerville with East Cornerville yard underneath
6 & 7: East Cornerville engine terminal and the door...
The amount of stretch at the bottom between pics 3 and 6 is a lot, there's only about 2 feet of mainline under the bottom of the frame!

  • Well, went fanning at Berea, OH today. Didnt catch much that good. Caught NS 7515 (ES40DC) that seemed to be pretty fre***hrough a fast moving e-bound CSX Q110.

CSX V917 came by today with CSX 713 (SD70MAC) and CSX 154 (AC4400CW). Not that great. Did cathc the NS 2701 (SD70M-2) though, which was pretty cool considering it is the lowest 2700 unit I've seen.

Caught a CSX consist that went CSX 7626 (C40-8) HLCX 6517 (SD40M-3) UP 9309 (C40-8) CSX 6238 (GP40-2) and HLCX 6502 (SD409-2CLC). The 7626's horn was crazy and so was the NS train that just past it with....

None other than a loco I've been hunting. NS 2577 (Conrail painted SD70). I just wanted to hunt this until I heard the horn and today I got my wish. Well, I've been rambling long enough!

  • Heeeeyyy hows it going? I went railfanning in Chicago, and the weather was not that great...but I caught a rarity! http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=147017

    Pretty cool!!!
  • I have not been under here for a while. Nothing new. Working on my heavy wieght passenger train and my Erie builts. Trying to fini***he set. There are twelve cars I want and I only have three at the moment. By the end of this summer I should have about 6 or 7 of them.
And I am still debating on the brass or MP15AC with sound. I really like the MP15ac and I am leaning toward that. But hey we will have to see.
Work is going quite well and I think I have worked on eveything so far.

  • Well guys I am back on the fourms after a breif trip to Phoenix where UP runs on the Sunset route which is ex SP the line runs right next to I-10 so thats good then there's bushes, cars, and stuff to get in my way then the East bound lane can't see as good but I try. Here's some of the stuff I saw.

    2 CSX's C40-8 and a SD40-2 on a auto train on seperate days,1 NS C40-8 # 8850, 2 patched SP's 8782 and 2729 they have been patched for years 8782 I saw patched in Folkston in 2003, 1 patched CN&W Operation LifeSaver # 6729, a UP GP38-2 # 326 on a rock train, a CP Rail SD40-2 in the Pac Man Paint( looks like Pac Man on long hood), 3 leasers HLCX and 2 CEFX's, and many of UP's 1,444 SD70M's.

I'll be heading back to Phoenix Friday and coming back Sunday to get a last look at some UP trains for a while.

Now whats this about the UP patching stuff everybody is complaining about them patching CN&W,SP,and the DRG&W some people are going too far over the line and making this a big deal. Yes 8575 got patched so did 1,000's of other CN&W's heck, 8575's paint was fadeing along with its logo good ridance to that I rather have a good paint condition that a bad engine to be carring its old company's colors.
To hate the UP like that its like to hate CSX,NS,BNSF,CN and others. The 4601 has a CSX number and 4617 also does 9119,9120,9121, and 9122 even CSX 2667. NS has patched all Conrails even the Standard Cab SD70's in the 2500's yes they don't have a patch but they are NS. Everything gets patched its a part of the RR life. This is my 2 cents.
