TEEN RAILFAN PLACE-LET'S TALK TRAINS! Thread Locked

  • trainboy-

I wouldn't waste your time submiting those, they are way to blurry. What kind of camera are you using, or are you scanning flim? Either way, the blur completly ruins those shot. A couple of the are also unlevel and the croping could use some work.

Also, the thing with the hotel is called ghosting
  • Hey I have some good shots from disposible I'll post them later.

  • Matt, I agree with John, I wouldn't waste your time with submitting your shots to railpic's. They are nice, but they are a little blurry, and I definately wouldn't call them RP.net quality. Are you using a telephoto lense? If so, are you using something to steady the camera? That might be your problem, not being able to hold the camera still enough. Also it looks like you need to work on the F settings, as the depth of feild is way off. The Moutains in the back look out of focus, and sometimes the rest of the train does too, and I don't think it's always because of the exhaust. I do like the angles of some of those shots though.

I like the shot of the model railroad too! Looks pretty good.

  • Thanks guys, yup im 14. Matt, i like that SOO 7 post Boxcar you got, very nice.

Richard- Congrats on the new cam. Im wanting to get another one also, and its still 5 MP's like this one, but with more zoom, and a bigger picture. Now sadly, your going to hate yourself when you compare your pictures and are like "dang, these ones suck". Thats what happened to me.

    Gotta eat, seeya,

  • Oh definitely, that roll of film taught me that a longer exposure is key! And yes, all of those were shot with a tripod, it's just the multiple transitions that add on to the ever so slight thing that seems to happen. If you look at the pic of 8502 http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b274/trainboysd40/img032.jpg You'll notice that the sides are slightly more blurred than the centre, any explaination for this? Perhaps the lens is zooming or unzooming ever so slightly while I'm taking the picture?
And is ghosting a good thing in this case?

  • Alec- I know what you mean, and you wish you would've went with the 8.1 mp cam right away. Happy birthday by the way. Mine is on July 11th.

My new camera is a Canon DC-8300 with 1/1500 second shutter speed, time exposure and capture mode (enable you to take continous shots, while the cam puts them together making it into one shot - don't ask). This also has sweet night shot. Plus, it is my first cam with optical zoom!

Only $229.99 at an Aldi nearby. If you don't know what Aldi is, it's a food/appliances store with various accesories etc. Office Max was selling a 7.1 mp camera with digital/optical zoom combined for $199.99 - not sure what brand. It wasn't as good.

    Catch y'all later...

  • Woot, optical zoom! BTW< I still appear to be banned on your forum...
1/1500th - fast enough for you yet?? I NEVER take pictures longer than 1/500th, even on the sunniest of days - maybe it's because I shoot 100ISO film!

  • I'll have to contact Eric tonight and have him come onto my forums and unlock you. I'm still not familiar enough with the settings/management of proboards.

BTW, you can go up to 1/250 second shutter speed if you want to and do you think that would be good.

It says in the manuel, that you can freeze raindrops with this camera. I'll have to see it to believe it.

Anyways, I'm now heading down to Central Ohio to photograph some Ohio Central, Wheeling & Lake Erie and Norfolk Southern action. Meanwhile, we'll head to a completely S Scale train convention [zzz].

But the good thing is is that it changes to HO the next day, and at least I get to miss a day of school.

    C'ya guys...

  • Richard, What kind of optical zoom to you have? Is it a number like 10x or are you using sperate lenses and mm numbers? Doesn't sound like a bad camera.
