TEEN RAILFAN PLACE-LET'S TALK TRAINS! Thread Locked

  • There is no switcher in that paint scheme. 1233 is a regular YN2 now 3. No I was not saying 1233 was the last one in YN2 , In Augusta it was the last one besides 6140 and a couple of others.

Matthew- that is ridiculous that railpictures didn't accept your photo, I thought that it was great. And I'm not just "saying" that.

Yeah, I know..but I went back to the photo lab, demanded (Or asked politely) for a reprint and this time don't cut all that off, and I got it, so I've resubmitted it, and it'll be in the queue for a little while longer...http://www.railpictures.net/viewqueued.php?id=225051
Doesn't that look so much better? I spent a lot of time making it about perfect, getting rid of the scanner fuzz, and I cropped a lot of sky off the top. Think I cropped too much? But sorry about the headache..

Tommy - Gotta love that C&O, eh? It can cheer you up when you're down, right? Huh? And don't worry..you'll get that hug eventually..

Remember how I was saying that I had taken some hopefully awesome pics on the weekend, but they might have been overexposed? I hope not, cause this is my mum's version, and even it turned out good! That's me in the bottom right balancing the telephoto on a railing so that the 200mm won't be blurred, try to imagine that, except my version is nice and crisp!

They use to carry iron ore from the iron range down to the ore docks along lake superior. imagine 7 of those locomotives coupled together running an ore train. It was quite a show! I don't remeber how many there were but my friend Kale could buzz you a bit more info on the erie mining company. I just know about the RS-11. The Erie also had F-units and GP-20's. They also had baldwin switchers. It was a pretty cool operation untill it went out of business.

Eric: I am truely sorry about your name so for now on I will call you Eric[:)].

MOST UNITS SCRAPPED, line may now be used for coal hauling..................

    Now i'm really gon
    Kale[^]

Actually, Most RS11's and the other SD power was sold to Maryland Midland. The F units are still on the line, as they will be running a few more trains this coming year with excess taconite.

Only one a-unit and two bs were saved I don't know were the rest went, why do ya think they use the 4211.......and there is not many train movements anywhay...........2 per week at most[;)]

  • Very nice pic. But i do think what they are getting at is that the camera focused on the mountains .. not the engine itself.

  • Matt, it is a nice shot. I agree with Will though, I think they're getting at the fact that the engine is blurry and the mountains are in focus instead. They like the focus on the engine. I like the shot though.

  • Long time no see. Whats up guys?
Ive been sick all week, so i havent done any railfanning. On Monday we had a Snow day, which i couldnt enjoy! I went to school on Thursday and today though.

I got basketball on Saturday and Sunday, so that takes care of the fanning. Im still nursing my throat, as i need it to get a little better or i'll die in our games.

Matt-Nice pics man, a little crisper and she woulda made it!

  • Kale, wasn't your signature picture taken on the tourist line north of Canal Park?
  • Yes, the North Shore Scenic Railroad. Myself, Kale, and James all work/volunteer there.
The NSSR has 26 miles of track.
Im tired but I know Kale will go into detail once he and James get back from Chicago.

  • Speaking of Chicago:

I went on a trip through Minnesota (where I live,) Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Ontario this past summer.

Places I saw were La Crosse, Rochelle, Duplainville, Stateline, Dolton, Franklin Park, Blue Island, South Bend, IN (where CN & NS parallel,) and Bayview Junction.
  • Hey all-

I'm heading over to Youngstown, OH today and will be stopping at the Akron (Brittain) yard. So be expecting photos from there.

Oskar- It's safe to say that you are getting better grades than me. I have an A, B, C and D. The D is in Science.
But by the way, NS 2731 came by Berea, OH yesterday and painted. I have yet to see an unpainted 2700 loco, but by the time I see one, they'll all be painted. That's how it always goes. (Hey, you're talking to the guy who didn't see a CSX ES44DC until December 29, but did see a UP C45ACCTE in July.....)

Matthew- That is a good photo you have, but I too, say I have to agree with the others. It seems that the mountains are the only things that catch your attention in that photo. The CP train below is a bit grainy/blurry. Just my two cents.

Well, I'll have my photos on my unicapital site below (in my sig) tonight. I hope that you get a chance to see them.

    Catch ya later....
