TEEN RAILFAN PLACE-LET'S TALK TRAINS! Thread Locked

  • Matthew-not to be rude, but keep that Brendan *** away from me on your forums!! Everything I say he has a name for!! Either I'm a stuck-up tight ***, judge or arrogant! I'm getting sick of it! If you don't stop him, I will leave your site because I don't need the hassel (spelling*). Thank you if you do!

For the discussion of cameras--one of my friends at school, who knows alot about computer technology and cameras told me that Nikon SLRs aren't that good, but he also says they're in the range of nearly $1,000. Any comments or corrections?

  • Chris is right, point and shoots aren't bad, I get by with it. I really want an SLR though, but since no one but me is into Phototraphy or trains in My family, and I don't have the money, I doubt I'll get some anytime soon....

Chris, What is the Price on a D70? I am starting to collect prices so I know what I'll be getting myself into.....

Well guys, my first day of finals was today. I had a biology one first, which wasn't so bad, but then I had the dreaded Engli***est. Blech........ 90 Minutes worth of writing about 4 short essays and one or two short answer problems. It just about drove me crazy. But, at least I can say the worst test is behind me.......

I'm tired, so I'm going to amble off. I might be back, we'll see.

From what I understand from a friend (Who is a professional Newpaper photographer, so he knows his stuff) he said both Nikon and Cannon are good, about equal. He couldn't decide which one was better. So I don't think Nikons are all that bad.

Your right, $1,000 is the right range. Walmart has the Cannon Digital Rebel for around $938 (I think), and that's minus the zoom lenses, other than the 50mm one that comes with the camera. So yeah, we're talking a lot of money. You can see now what I don't have the funds to buy one......
  • Richard, you friend has obviously never used a D70. Look at the clarity of most of my photos to see what I am talking about. I am not quite shure, but they are in the 800-1000 dollar range.... I know my dad got a pretty good deal on his, and he got an extra lense..I will ask him...
  • Y'all talkin' about cameras again?
  • Of course! Railfans need to talk about cameras! It's a main resource to railfans! And we aren't talking any cameras, we're talking SLRs!!! LOL

Chris, any news from your dad yet?

  • OK james remember how many Up trains that wanted to git in to south Itaska yard while we were waiting for yor 70 trains a day to come through saunders of whitch the most I've seen are two or 3 after hours there. Lets try to find that railfanning guide that the disspacher TDS of the NSSr has to find an area close by that allot of traffic, because that lists the peak times for trains.
May have to prospone to sat. though I may go snow boarding w/ my freinds at sperit Mtn. [:P][;)][tup]
Though do whant to try a new setiing on my rebel EOS.!!!!!!!!!!!
Talk to yer later, CALL ME SCHULTZ OR MEDLIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • What's up Matt?
  • Howdy y'all.

Man...Something is going on with the weather. I can't breathe, my nose is clogged and my allergies are acting screwy. Maybe it'll snow here. But I highly doubt it. My nose can't predict the weather.

Talking about cameras, eh? I have a Kodak CX7530 5.0MP. It's a dern nice camera for $200. Takes great shots. I love it. The zoom could be better though, but I'm not complaining.[:D]

  • Nuttin. Nuttin at all. The cello went well, but no trains.
Richard, just try to have a fresh start with Brendan, I know he wants to stop this argument.
A camera that I just have to reccomend, even though it is film, is the Pentax K-1000. You can get one at most used camera stores, it is a solid camera! Takes great pictures, and has been a staple for over 20 years!
As for me, I gotta clean some bathrooms and loors ($20) so I'll be back in an hour or so.

  • $20? That is it. I wouldn't even look at the floor, much less clean it.
  • First off, kiddies, Nikon no longer offers the D70 model, only the imporved D70s. A good deal from a body would be $849, a kit would run you about $1100 which is good deal because the included lens is a nice wide angle ED (ED is a high class lens made by Nikon that allows you to use manual and auto-focus at the same time, but none of you use manual focus anyway so that does matter.)
A D50 is about $100 less, while the new D200 is about $1600 for the body only, but don't worry the D200 is way out of your leauge anyways, most of you are using point and shots or SLR is the 'auto' mode and think you know what your talking about
  • Wuts ur deal man? Kiddies? Give me a break! GET OT OF HERE IF ALL YOU WANT TO DO IS THROW AROUND YOUR AGE AND THINK YOUR COOL!!!!

Lol, chillax buddy, no harmed intented just playin' around. Beside I don't think my wopping age of 18 could be thrown very far anyways, but on a serious note: I am pretty cool.
  • WTF is your problem? Get the hell outta here and dont come back. Or learn some manners. I know how to use an SLR, though not having one. Ive had film for a long time so i know how to focus. TROLL.

Intresting that you disproved the fact your trying to make in the pervious sentence. To my knowledge, which isn't flawless but pretty good, the reason they're called point and shoots is becuase all you have to do is point and shoot (thus foucsing is not a factor). I think we can all agree on that. PS- using flim has no bearing on if you can focus or not, the two, in the sense you are using them are totaly unrelated.
You guys are way up tight, loosen up-and for the love god; could you guys zoom out when taking pictures, not every shot has to be on the maxium telephoto setting
