  • Hey guys,

Well, I had an okay day railfanning yesterday. Not many photos, but I saw the rear end of two Frieght trains (I missed the locomotives both times, darn it all.....). I did get to catch Amtrak #8 though, the eastbound Empire Builder, and I saw a little BNSF run through power idling in the CP's Portage yard. So not a great day, but not a bad one either.

I've got more homework to do today, so I probably won't be on again until later tonight.

    See ya all around,
    Noah
  • [:p]Howdy....Just making the rounds before I study finals....sigh...

Noah, glad you got to go railfanning!!!

Uhh ohh!!!! I shot some pics of my model trains and will post soon!!!

    Later

EDIT: as promised...pics of my trains!!!

I ran some trains last night, on my dads awesome layout... here are some shots of my favorite locomotives of mine on my dads layout...

I think this is kinda cool, the diesle in the forground, with the blurry coaling tower...I dont know..its kinda cool...I guess...

And some pacing shots!!! I really enjoy these...

The UP 9702 races across the barren plywood desert that is...my dads layout!![:p]

And, through my dads switching district...

I did not hve it going that fast, I just moved tha camera along with it to give the illusion of speed!!!

    [:D]

    ENJOY!!!![8D][:D][:)]
  • See if your a UP fan you never have to worry about your favorite railroad getting bought ought.
I don't know if you remember it, but I went to the little town of Notus yesterday and heard an old historian talk about the local rail history, it was pretty interesting.

Chris, amazing pictures, I wonder if model railroader would ever want some speed shots in their section with layout pictures, it certainly adds realism that only a camera can capture.

  • Thanks for the kind emarks James...yes, there are benifits to being a UP fan...[8D] Ya know, when I get scenery up, I was thinking of doing those pacing shots and sending them in to MR, as I do not see that very often, and I think its kinda neat!!! Thanks again for the compliments..!!!

    Back to studying..
  • Very nice shots, Chris! [:)][8D]

  • I like the effect of that UP train to make it look like it is running quite fast.
I'll have to try that with my new camera when I get it. Nice pics.

  • Chris, I'll second...er third....er whatever, the pacing shots. Those are kinda sweet.

Lotus, MR acutally had shots like that in trackside photos about 5 or 10 years ago. The way the guy did it then though was to paint all the scenery around the model to look streaked and blurred. That way the model and the camera didn't have to move. It came out pretty well actually.

Here's my shot of the Empire Builder from yesterday. Came out okay, although not as good as I was hoping, it moves too fast for my camera to keep up! I am just happy I saw the train though:

I also did some checking out of the new rail-served industry here in Reedsburg today. It's pretty cool, they've got about a 500 foot long spur and a little 10 foot long pit for unloading bottom dump hoppers, ect. It makes for a neat looking little bridge over the pit too. I can't wait till this industry starts getting rail service.

Well, I suppose I should get back at the homework. I'm taking a break right now, but, work calls..... [sigh]
