Did SAnta Fe actually have Red/Silver hood units or is this just a Model Railroad thing?

santa fe had red/ silver gp38-2 but they would be repaints- the red/ silver warbonnet was re-introduced in the late 80's (it hadn't been used since 1968)i'm sure some were repainted. (i'm sure you know this but that loco in your link is junk -i have one.)
that scheme could be on any loco produced before mid- 1994 (when santa fe merged w/ BN) the yellow and blue warbonnet was used from the 60's - for freight units only
the red/ silver was reserved for passenger service until the late 1980's

Yes. Santa Fe had some GE hood units that they assigned to psgr service towards the end of the pre=Amtrak era. They were the GE equivilant of the EMD SD-40Ps the GN had and the SDP-45s on the SP

Santa Fe had 11 GP38-2s, all inherited from the TP&W takeover in 1984. None were ever painted in red and silver warbonnet colors. See http://rosters.gcrossett.com/atsf/ for Santa Fe roster.

In 1967 and 1968 EMD delivered 14 FP45 cowl units to the Santa Fe and Milwaukee Road. I don't have the split but the majority were sold to the Santa Fe to replace their aging F7's on their passenger trains. All the Santa Fe FP45's were painted in the red/silver warbonnet color scheme. Santa Fe also bought six cowl units from GE, designated U30CG. These units were also painted in the red/silver warbonnet color scheme. The Milwaukee Road engines were painted in the standard Union Pacific passenger colors.
The FP45's were powered by the 3600 hp, 20-645E3 engine shared with the SD45. The U30CG was powered by the 3000 hp FDL-16 engine. All were equipped with steam generators.

As mentioned above, ATSF had 9 FP45's and 6 U30CG's and red/silver warbonnet colors, these were cowl units. There were also 10 U28CG's, which were hoods and were originally assigned to the Texas Chief.
In the late 1980's and up to the BNSF merger, at least the following hoods were painted in red/silver warbonnet: GP60M 100-162, SD75M 200-250, GP60B 325-347, B40-8W 500-582, C44-9W 600-699, there may be more.
The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul
