The Ugliest Diesel ?

  • What about those German units that UP and SP bought? I think the BL2 was a good looking locomotive!
  • NO ugly diseasels??? Surely you jest!!! They're ALL ugly (well, maybe the E7, E8, and E9 were a little less ugly than most). [swg]

But, in all seriousness, how could anyone think a BL2 is not ugly? And, then there's the GP30...another study in ugliness. These two are the wildebeests of the railroad world. [(-D] [(-D] [(-D]

PS: Before you bother flaming me for this post, I should tell you that I'm not going to monitor this thread and won't see your words of indignation. [:D]

  • No problem, beauty is in the eye of the beholder!!!
  • U50 here as well
I like NS but CSX has the B&O.
  • The only ugly engines are those on the dead line about to go under the scrappers torch, I would love to see a BL-2 still under power no matter how ugly it was.[:(]
  • Those guys who did the BL are still at it. Just look at the Pontiac Aztek[xx(]
  • Any modern "toolbox on wheels" gets my vote. Give me an F or an E or even a PA anyday!

       Have fun with your trains

  • Well, they aren't really diesels but hybrids, but the Green Goats have to be uglier than home-made sin. But, for a pure diseasel (oops, I mean, diesel), my vote would be the BL1's.

  • I don't think any diesel is "ugly." Some look rather cool, like the U50, and C855, the BL2 and the rest of them. Nothing is ugly in my eyes.[^]

  • Those GG-1's and the electric loco's that N&W ran were uglier than the ugliest diesel.

I have seen a few Edsels in museums. Actually I kinda like that car. [;)] [8D] [:D]

As far as the ugliest diesel, practiacally anything GE makes is ugly. Then they sorta wised up and copied Alco and EMD so their locos looked a little better. Too bad their quality lagged so far behind for sooo long. It was only in the last 10 years that GE realy started making a halfway decent loco.

  • IF IT IS POWERED BY EMD,GE, ALCO,BALDWIN, FARIBANKS-MORSE,MACK, CATIPILLER, AND BOSSIE THEY ARE WORKS OF ART [C):-)]
  • I thought the Millepede was one of the ugliest locomotives that I have ever seen. Two large misshaped E units connected to look like a big ugly looking millepede. In all I think they stretched to be about 150 feet or more long. Saw one on ebay once in HO scale and it came to be over 18 inches!

  • Krauss-Maffei, without a doubt!!!

As if THIS wasn't bad enough, the "follow-up" was worse...
