These days this hobby seems to have so many rivet-counters that I hesitate to go to local train shows. I do believe that we should strive for realistic models, but there are limits. I mean aren't we supposed to be having fun?
Maybe I'm just to critical,but that is the way that it all looks to me.[:(!]

The most important thing is that you enjoy the type of modeling you are doing. It should not make any difference what anyone else is doing. If you are happy with what you are modeling thats all that counts. There is plenty of room for everyone from tinplate to "rivet counters", from Z to G, from live steam to 1 inch to the foot!!! The level of detail is entirely up to you and you alone. [2c]

Like what RR saud above, its about what makes you happy.. If watching your Big Boy model pull a 30 car double stack container train around the layout makes you giggle and think of those wonderful "What if thoughts", or if you think your AC4400 War Bonnet Sante Fe Engine looks cool pulling some old heavyweights passenger cars, Go for it. [:D] You smile, you giggle, whatever. As long as it makes you happy. its your railroad. Someone gives you greif, tell them to pound ballast[:p]

There Rivitcounters, yes,. Most of them have beenin the hobby long time and have gotten to that point for several different reasons. Just remember, I bectha all of them still start out as a rookie with some train set engine going around and around till they learned. Eitherunder the tree or as a kid under the bed.

Redneck your so correct! Rivet counters bring down your work. Just when you think you have a great model wham, someone starts counting.
The best case I saw of this was a 13 year old telling an old head Q engineer that his 2-10-4 model ( with full backhead detail cushions on the seats and the like) was not only the wrong shade( heavily weathered) but that it had flaws and the q never had this that or the other.
My road is a On30 freelance of my area. No one ever had this scheme or operations or anything like it! Start counting rivets and i will feed you to the station cats!

Ya, thats one thing i NEVER DO! When you have a guy that worked for the railroad, you should never point out whats wrong with his knowledge! Maybe he cant identify a SD45-2, but he can sure tell you what to do when you see, hmmm searching for examples, the inside housing of the steam generator itself, he will tell you what usually needs to be fixed an what not. I only share my knowledge ( and i am very good friends with WC engineers and Conductors, even a trainmaster) when asked. But on topic, i like my stuff to be as close as possible, but it usually doesnt bother me if the ditchlights are in the wrong place or it has a different plow, thats just to nit picky.
