In a ES44DC in notch 8 you can hardly hear the motor the whistle can be heard barely....they are pretty quiet inside

I remember when I was a young lad watching an SW1200 shoving 50 loaded hoppers into Wanamaker Yard blowing embers out of her stack, looking a bit tired (well more than a bit tired), The next day they took her to Enola. By the way, she was probably in the tenth notch!!! LOL!
