Model Rail Road Scenery

Hi I am currently working on my n-scale layout. If you look at my profile it tells a little bit about it. I do not wi***o buy trees because they are to expensive. Is there a good way to find and preserve linchen from the woods? What are some other methods of making trees? Thanks for your help
