Since I spent most of my school years near it and later commuting on it, my favorite/s would be the Erie Lackawanna and later the DL&W commuter trains to NY from Dover/Denville/Mt. Tabor stations. Saw the last of the Phoebe Snows come through. I am now modeling the Morris Plains - Hackettstown section of the mainline in HO.

Gotta agree, the UP is as american as apple pie and baseball and the largest of the american railroads that has not changed its name, plus, you gotta love Steve and 844/3985. Also, the UP has not changed its color scheme once, the yellow, grey, red trim, and blue wings have not changed since it was fasioned in the 50's. Tell that to the BNSF who has heritage paint schemes galore! I despise the BNSF because I loved the ATSF's red warbonnet scheme and since they merged with the BN they formed the ugliest paint scheme ever to adorn a respectable American diesel locomotive. I read in a Motor Trend magazine article about the Ford (my favorite car make, chevy corvette is include!!) F-350 pick up and the author said "Watching the F-250 pull the trailer up the hill is similar to a Union Pacific Locomotive!" Truley, the UP Big Boy (my favorite steamer, along with the Y6b, berkshire, and J class) was featured on the cover of Times magazine in the 40's. I also love the UP because they have a strong connection with their past and

I agree also. My dad worked for the UP for 30+ years in Nebraska so we road trains all over the western USA in the 40's and 50's. I worked in engine service in 1953-54 at a little railroad town named Ayer Junction on the Snake river north of Walla Walla, WA. servicing steam and diesel locos. Only two buildings in the community didn't belong to UP: the school and a grocery store. Quit to go to Ft. Benning to school for the National Guard then on to college. Worked for them one other summer for a while until wheat harvest started which paid more. I have many UP models. TARP
