This is a diesel-mechanical type that I'm very interested in. Exactly how does it work? Are there any videos of it at work? Are there other models of diesel mechanical types? Any advice, pictures, or videos will be appreciated.

I would reccomend asking either within the Trains Magazine forums, or in the Prototype Information thread in the Model Railroader forums. They get more traffic, and you'll get your answer, practically assured.[8D]

After checking on these pages:

I verified that the BR Class 08 is listed as diesel-electric traction. It has one large traction motor with siderods connecting the axles. It appears similar in layout to EMD's GA8 and GA18 export designs.
The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

These have a 350HP diesel powerplant and have been around since the '50s, they're reliable, solid locos by most accounts. Top speed is around 15mph. If you search under "Classes" in the Image Gallery at www.railwayscene.co.uk you should find a few photos of them in their usual working environment.
