  • Hmmm.. Well I'll give the all too obvious answer,[:D] Lehigh Valley! But I'm going further: 2) Rutland (never got to see it , i'd love[:I] to have had a shot at it. [:p]I came close at the 1981 and'82 Steamtown Railfans weekends.) 3) New York Central *[:(!] Despite its VERY anti-Railfan attitude*[:(!] 4)[:)] Lackawanna 5)The Ontario & Western 6) PRR* The way that Norfolk Southern conducts itself, one could make a case for PRR being alive and well! 7) Nickel Plate 8)Boston & Maine 9) Central Vermont ( A line that grows on you, the more one sees of it ,or its successor, New England Central. Try it and see. )10) Delaware & Hudson. There might be others but I need to go for a refill , my beer glass is empty.Hmmm, New Haven should be in there, Western Maryland, Reading, Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore, Lehigh & New England, Lehigh & Hudson River, too. And I missed the Central of New Jersey...OK, doctor I'll go now...[:p][:p][:p]
  • Forgot one, the Algoma Central. Quite possibly the best North American passenger rail line ever. True the excursions still operate, but it's just not the same!

  • ALL OF THEM!!!!!

    The Iron Horse
  • Naturally, being a 100% true as blue can be Texan, I'd reserect the old
    Texas & Pacific.
  • BRING THEM ALL BACK!!!!!!! Rock Island for sure it would be a powerhouse class one with more employees than any other road! Look up mini trains for that belief.
Davenport Rock Island and Northwestern or the DRI line!! I work its remnants now but at least if they were running we might make it the short hop from Clinton to Bettendorf every day without worrying about dying on the ICE!

Yes we are on time but this is yesterdays train

  • Soo , BN, SP, Conrail
  • first I would 3rd or 4th 5th etc...for the original CHESSIE SYSTEM[:D]
...then I will throw in one that some may not know, how about the old
Pere Marquette's or maybe even the Detroit & Mackinaw Railroad out of East Tawas MI.....the D&M even ran an occasional STEAM TRAIN in the 60's/70's and ended up donating the engine to the Greenfield Village/Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn Mi and got the engine there under LIVE STEAM!!!!!!!!!![8D][8D][;)][bow][bow][bow][bow]

  • I really miss the Milwaukee Road. I grew up next to the route of the Northwoods Hiawatha, and always loved to see the orange and black go by.

Along with the Milwaukee Road, I also miss the GB&W and the CB&Q (and the CNW as well).

    Cheers!
