TEEN RAILFAN PLACE- LETS TALK TRAINS !

  • Hey guys,

(Note: This post is NOT ment to offend anyone. Please, nobody should take this personally!!!)

I come to you today in a state of sadness. Sadness at what this topic has fallen too. Chris had really, really good intentions with this thing in the beinging, and it worked for the first twenty pages, until a few folks decided to turn it into a nonsense topic for start chasers, and then it turned into a flame war. Can we try to get it back on topic?

And BTW, I think a few of us need instant messenger......

    Anyway,

    Happy Veterans day everyone!!!

I plan on working on my newest railroad website this weekend a little. I had a freewebs.com account, and I still do, but I have become frustrated with Freewebs. I'm out of space, and I'm not going to pay for a premiun account, and it's come to the point where I can barely edit pages, my computer has a problem with the format that they changed to to edit the site. So I'm working on getting a new website a www.trainweb.org

Problem is that Trainweb isn't like Freewebs. Freewebs you can edit pages on the web. With Trainweb you have to use HTML codes and uploading software, and it is complicated stuff. I have to go learn a little more about it this weekend.

And on top of that, I have a sore throat, I think I have a cold comming on. So I better get off any go rest.

See you all later(either tonight or tomorrow!)

  • Im glad that Noah and Douglas also Oskar agree. Richard, i really dont care why you left to be honest. Im just saying ( agreeing with noah ) that this was REALLY meaningful place, then ( maybe a coincidence ) you come in and wow, 9 new pages. Ya know what i mean. Dont get mad at me ok, im not mad at YOU, im mad at how much you post when its not needed. Its things like this that **** people off. Im not doing this to be mean, and im not picking on you , but its the truth. So please, refrain from posting so much PLEASE! Now, yes, lets got on topic. If you dont have something worth posting DONT. This was a really nice place........
Anyway, ill probably be gone till later , im playing basketball with a bunch of freinds so talk to you all soon.

  • Anybody have any idea of how many BN SD9s are still active? I go to Northtown Yard almost every week and I always see a couple still in service working the St. Paul transfer.

    Thanks,
    Douglas
Long live the Soo Line, WC, SD45s, and any remaining standard cab EMDs on todays class 1s!
  • Well, finally did get my scanner. What was supposed to be a quick &100 dollar purchase ended up being a $160 adventure. I had to get the antenna, and the rechargeable battery pack, and the frequency book, etc. etc. Gotta love not only my impulse shopping but also pushy salesmen at Radio Shack. I must say the whole early sunset thing is really throwing me off. I don't get out of my last class until 3, and by the time I get home, get my gear, and get to my favorite train spot, there's not much light left! At least I probably have enough pictures to edit that should last me through the winter. Anybody else getting those late-fall photography blues? And, though I may not have been here very long, I must agree that this form needs to say simple. It's not all about stars and getting to thirty pages...it's about the trains! Let's stay on topic, even if it may be a very open ended one...[2c]

  • AC6000CW, well, alot of other railroads do it too. Some just are too lazy to shut it down ( but doesnt happen as much now because of the cost of fuel ) or they are going to be used soon. In winter they usually stay on because of how cold it gets, and you never know when it wont turn on.

  • AC6000W, could you clarify your question? As far as I know, most all engines are in idle when they are just sitting there.

  • do the locomtive have a computer on it that turns on and off.

  • Idle means they're just sitting there.

Alec (if you want me to call you that), I agree completely and I have an answer to why this turned into a chatroom. Because me Matthew and mostly Chris became real good friends.

I need to apologize to everyone. I truly am sorry for all of the posts.

  • I am going to Sebring, Ohio tomorrow which a model rr club is holding it's annual meet open house. It has a 640' (yes I said 640') by 40' layout. One drawback, it is mostly Conrail and ATSF, which ain't bad, but I'd like to see some CSX and NS action. LOL

  • Wesley, Glad to here you got a scanner!! I hope it well aid you in your railfanning adventures.

And yeah, I am getting the fall blues too, as about this time of year, the shadows get to long to go railfanning of the only train on my Local tracks. It is a late afternoon job, and in the winter I never see it in Daylight. But, the upside is, I can go get Snowy Shots of the Nearby(about 20 miles) CP line, and I love snow shots!!

I know that the WSOR leaves their engines on all winter long, as otherwise some of the liquids in the locomotive will freeze up, making for costly repairs and putting the engine out of service for a while.

Railfanning this weekend doesn’t look good for me. The weather is going to be crappy anyway, and neither of my parents really want to take me railfanning. So, it will probably be a few weeks before I get to go railfanning again. Depending on the weather, I might go with a friend railfanning over Thanksgiving weekend, down to the Dubuque or Rochelle area.

  • Hey guys,. I am very very very very sorry that I contributed to this forum becoming a star chaser one, and that is why I stayed away yesterday, and I see that all of you- even Alec and Richard, who seemed to be quarreling have agrreed that we should stop using thios as an instant messanger. If you don't already know, believe it or not I actually stated this thread, and I am sorry that I contributed to its downfall, and I would like to help us get it back to the way it was, and I think all of you would rather see it back to the way it was. So, if we could lets get this thing back to the way it was, and not an istant messanger. Let's try and put it behind us. Heck, I would even delete some of my posts from before if it would make yall happy, and I am sure Richard, and AC6000 would do the same. This is a really great group, I consier you guys my friends, and I don';t want to see this place go downhill. This place was a great one. We even had adluts compliement on it. This is something to be proud of!!!!! Lets try and save "our place" and get it back to hte way it was.

    What do ya say???
  • Ya , we can do that. But , and i really hope he doesnt read this because he is just going to get mad at me. But , i dont think that we can get it back to the way it was if Alstom is here. I know, im sorry, but its how i feel. He came in and boom, 8 pages. Thats just my thinking. He even has his own "coffee shop" and is trying to create more. Sorry richard. Anyway, im bored, the transfer isnt up at the yard yet, its cloudy ( cloudy and digital dont mix to good ) so i just have to sit and wait. Have a good day everyone.
